As a part of the studio, readings from theater director Peter Brook were read and discussed to appreciate the value of informal performance- Rough Theater, in Brook's words. The studio was set up to see how this idea could be applied to architecture.
The first project called for a theater space on the UC Berkeley campus that would take advantage of an existing condition and make assets of its shortcomings. I chose a garbage loading dock behind a life sciences building and created a performance space that still allows the loading dock funtions to continue by day but also provides communal space for the building's occupants.
